Kirumira was first detained at Katwe Divisional Police station immediately after he was arrested but later paraded before the police tribunal at Naguru.

He was later sent to the railway detention facility in Nsambya until February 6 for further hearing.

However, newslexpoint has come to know that the senior officer was transferred to Nalufenya. This was confirmed by kirumira’s wife.

She said: “I got the worst and saddest news that my husband was last night (Thursday) taken to Nalufenya.”

The transfer of Kirumira to Nalufenya was also confirmed by police spokesperson Emilian Kayima.

“Nalufenya is a detention centre   where suspects of high profile crimes or those who can’t be handled by one region because of jurisdiction are kept,” Kayima said last year

Nalufenya is one of the feared detention centre in Uganda. It became more demotic last year after AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi murder suspects came out with wounds saying had been inflicted on them at the centre.

The 2017 report by Human Rights Watch, a US based body released last month showed that many people have been tortured in various places including Nalufenya in Jinja district but government has  ‘consistently failed to investigate cases of illegal detention and torture of suspects’ at the detention centre.
