This measure has been put to curb the spread of the virus in the country. It was announced on Thursday so that people can prepare for it as they should. This move however, is for Kigali and eight other districts in Rwanda.
“Shops will remain closed and movement restricted from July 17-26 except for essential services such as medical, groceries and banking and for personnel offering such services,” the statement said.
The cabinet meeting chaired by President Kagame took this decision as communicated by the prime ministers office.
By the time the meeting sat on Wednesday, Rwanda had 50,742 covid cases. This they say was due to the laxity in observing SOPs. This is why they preferred the decision to stop movement because people are apparently reluctant. By the end of the 10 days, they believe they will register a noticeable change.
Meanwhile here in Uganda, we are still pushing the 42 days of lockdown that President Museveni instructed.
Currently half way through the journey. We can say the lockdown has kind of worked. The cases have gone down in number although the virus is still among us.
People have taken part in the vaccination process unlike in the earlier days where they were skeptical. Even Tanzania rejoined publishing the COVID-19 statistics.
