This came after unverified reports that the kingdom was planning secession from the jurisdiction of the Ugandan government. They in turn staged up defiance to the central government. However, their move prompted the government to send troops to quell the uprising.
It was reported that over 153 people including children, women and Royal Kasese palace guards died in this clash. However, Elwelu after swearing in as the army representative in parliament today bragged of how he brought peace to the Rwenzori region.
“Those Kasese people who died were criminals that deserved the punishment that befell them. Why do you castigate me for what I did? I was on the ground and you weren’t. So I know what I did. I’m a judge of my own when am executing my national duties.” He said regarding those who were questioning his conscience.
Elwelu who showed no remorse said that the Kasese region is now peaceful and businesses run smoothly. “Have you ever heard of any chaos there again? I put that place to order and am proud of that.”
Furthermore, Elwelu went ahead to say that parliament needed the army to be represented to keep it in order. He added that Uganda is all peaceful through his actions and all other army officers.
