The police identified the victims as 11-year-old Mark Muwanguzi at Child Care Primary School in P.4 and 16-year-old Felix Lukyamuzi in P.7. The two drowned in the dam they had gone to for a swimming session on Monday at around 9:00am.
Mr. Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson revealed some of the things that happened prior to the incident. He said, Pastor Francis Kakande, the farther to Muwanguzi (deceased) left his son home in the morning as he went to church.
“Shortly Felix Lukyamuzi (deceased) came in and convinced his friend to go together to a natural forest where the said dam is located to collect firewood and swim as well. It’s alleged that it has been a habit of Lukyamuzi to swim unlike Muwanguzi who didn’t know how to swim,” he added.
The residents reportedly waited for the two children to make their way back home but this never happened. In the evening, the village members started to get concerned hence looking for them.
“The locals got clothes in the forest alongside the said dam. One of the village members who knew how to swim entered water and retrieved the bodies at about 10:00 pm. Upon police receiving the information they responded immediately, ”ASP Twineamazima said.
The police said they visited the scene and documented it then later took the bodies to Kasana Luwero Hospital for postmortem.
