Magufuli And Museveni Lay Foundation Stone For The Oil Pipeline

President Museveni and First Lady Janet Thursday welcomed Tanzanian President, His Excellency Dr John Pombe Magufuli and his wife, Janet, to Uganda on a three-day state visit.

Museveni and magufuli Together, they commissioned a one-stop customs centre at the Mutukula border with Tanzania.

“This is a big win for us in realising the core objective of the East African Community, in as far as ease of movement of persons and trade is concerned,” the president said.

The centre is expected to improve efficiency of customs service and facilitate increased trade relations between the two countries.

In another landmark win, they also laid a foundation stone for the $3.5b oil pipeline from Hoima to Tanga.

“Great opportunities abound for the locations that will harbour the pipeline and as government we expect cooperation from residents,” Museveni said.

The two presidents also addressed a rally in Kyotera, at the district headquarters, largely to bring the wanainchi on board on what is happening.

Museveni then congratulated the leadership of the two countries and their citizens on the continued good relations and look forward to creating more opportunities.

“Finally, I must thank the Tanzanian government, like I keep doing, for having supported us in the fight against Idi Amin. Asante.”
