The university’s 89th guild had planned for the event to take place on Friday October 13th, 2023. However, the organizers never actualized it as it only remained on paper.
It should be noted that there have been no signs whatsoever of preparations for the freshers’ ball. But this did not stop the 89th guild from sharing the posters for the event hoping that it would eventually happen.
Guild President Maseruka Robert, wrote an explanatory letter to enlighten the public on why the event didn’t happen. According to the letter, interruption from security forces caused the unfortunate mishap.
“The cancellation also follows a series of interruptions from security forces that made it close to impossible to hold the event,” the letter reads in part.
He further states that the event has only been postponed rather than canceled as many have been speculating. This is not the only event of the year at Makerere University that has flopped.
The Mitchell Bazaar also encountered the same fate. Vendors had even already set up their stalls ready to do business, but unfortunately, students deliberately refused to turn up.
Maseruka stated that they plan to reaffirm their commitment to have social events fully reinstated.
Fix Fameica is one of the artists who was expected to perform at the event and had even recorded a video to assure students of his performance.
Makerere University banned social events following the chaos that unfolded at the last freshers ball. Council has continued to maintain the ban despite attempts from several leaders to have it lifted.
