Man Jumps Into Lake Kyoga After Testing Positive For HIV

A 30-year-old man jumped off the Namasele ferry in an attempt to commit suicide on Wednesday. Until now, the beach marines on lake Kyoga are still looking for the body of the man.

The ferry master of the day, Douglas Senbundi, identified the man as Samuel Odongo. It is reported that Odongo made numerous phone calls to his relatives to take care of his wife while he was on board. And as the ferry prepared to dock, the man jumped into the water.

‘’Moments later as the ferry slowed in preparation for docking, Odongo jumped overboard into the water. It was the last time we set eyes on him,’’ the ferry master said.

He further said they alerted the district and lake security who immediately sprang into action to try and find the body. However, they haven’t found the body up to now. From the particulars entered into the ferry registry, Odongo is a resident of Naveo parish, Namasale Sub County, in Amolatar district.

They contacted his next of kin which he had filled in the registry before they set off for Namasale landing site. Preliminary reports indicate that the late had been troubled for a while and was on his way home.

This came after claims that he tested positive for HIV/AIDS.

The Residence District Commissioner (RDC) of Amolatar district, Eve Nalongo Kwesiga said it isn’t worth it for one to end their life just because they tested positive for AIDS. She also commented on the issues that come with suicide.

For example, the deceased leaving the burden of taking care of the wife and children.
