Mathias Mpuuga; Civic Space Is Shrinking, Reforms Are Needed

You Cannot Lead If You Don’t Want To Listen – Mathias Mpuuga On The Release Of Ssewanyana and Ssegirinya

The Leader of opposition, Hon Mathias Mpuuga has revealed that one can’t be a good leader if they are big headed and don’t want to listen to constructive advice.

Mpuuga while appearing on a political talkshow on CBS FM cautioned disgruntled youths out there. The MP said that it doesn’t mean these have to act like hooligans and be big headed because they are many.

He added that as a leader in NUP, he won’t accept to work with criminals and people who violate others. The idea of using extreme power and violence won’t help anyone, Mpuuga added.

The MP went ahead to say that this state is what forces them into a state of doing politics with people they shouldn’t be doing so. According to him, some people have to be led. Not every person will lead people. Such people have to be told that they need to be led.

He likened the situation they are in to a pot of ‘malwa.’

The Nyendo – Mukungwe legislator wondered how one wants to lead people but doesn’t want to be talked to. Furthermore, the MP said that if one doesn’t want to be led, they die while cursing.

He also cautioned people to be wary of politicians who have a big platform and comment about everything.

Mpuuga also said that what needs to be talked about is the state of abductions in the country. That’s what exactly he talked about in the discussions of having the two MPs freed.

“I want to caution all the youths out there to be careful on what they do. The prospect of them being many doesn’t give them the right to be excessively lawless and use force. I won’t accept as a leader in NUP to be under a group that violates other people’s rights. These actions are sometimes what forces us into doing politics with people we shouldn’t be doing so. It’s like we are seated on a pot of local beer.” He said.

Most social media users already think that this is a direct attack to his boss, Hon Bobi Wine. For long, there has been talk of a row between the two high ranking NUP leaders.
