Maurice Kirya has revealed in a reply to a fan how local singer Eddy Kenzo is not much well-known abroad. Kirya was describing how people see him abroad when they find out that he’s from Uganda.
Not many Ugandans however are well known abroad especially away from Africa.
“What people abroad say when they find out I’m Ugandan.
IDI AMIN?
BOBI WINE?
KILLING GAYS?
M7?
ME😐.” Kirya wrote in a Facebook post.
One fan went ahead to question why he had not mentioned Big Talent boss Eddy Kenzo. However, Maurice Kirya replied that “not yet” implying that he’s not yet certified amongst the most known Ugandans overseas.
Many fans feel that the Stamina singer is Uganda’s best musical export ever. This is because he has managed to win a number of international awards most notably the BET award in 2014. Kenzo has also gone ahead to raise the Ugandan flag as far as Colombia through his music.
He was also the first Ugandan to appear on the famous New York Times Square. However, it seems like politicians are still the most popular Ugandans abroad.
Ex-Ugandan President Idi Amin continues to be one of the most known Ugandans even almost two decades after his death. Some of the other most known Ugandans abroad include the likes of Oxfam president Winnie Byanyima, Kiiza Besigye, Joshua Cheptegei, John Akii Bua, Jose Chameleon among others.
Politicians, musicians and sportsmen are indeed the most popular Ugandans because of their ever presence in the media.
