These were apparently donated to help ease transporting patients in the Covid-19 pandemic.
Last week, the MoH appeared before MPs led by Jane Ruth Aceng and permanent secretary Dr. Diana Atwine.
They claimed that 8 ambulances had been dispatched to Mbale hospital in eastern Uganda to serve the region.
On the contrary, the hospital Director Dr. Emmanuel Tugaineyo said they are struggling to manage Covid-19 with only two ambulances. The head of the Covid-19 parliamentary committee, Patrick Mutono said this is impossible because 8 more ambulances had been sent to the region.
But, Dr. Tugaineyo insisted on the fact that the region has only two ambulances responding to the Covid-19 pandemic.
He even said they find a lot of challenges managing the two vehicles due to a lack of money for fueling them.
Dr. Mutono tasked the hospital management to establish the whereabouts of the ambulances meant for the hospital.
‘’The Ministry of Health told us they had given ambulances but everywhere we go, they are asking us where are the ambulances, they don’t see them. So we are waiting for a report from them and then we can show the ministry of Health because like Mbale Regional hospital, I think they said they have two or something and that is to cover the entire region,’’ Mutono said.
On the issue of fuel, Mutono said the Ministry informed MPs that hospitals receive Shs 980,000 daily to facilitate the cars.
