Dr. Patricia Litho, the Uganda Media Women’s Association (UMWA) chairperson made this call. It came as Uganda together with the rest of the world further mark the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.
The days are running under the theme, “UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls.”
Dr. Litho spoke to reporters and revealed that the media is inadequately performing in the coverage of the annual GBV campaign.
She further stated that different media outlets are airing different messages which causes a contradiction.
Therefore, Dr. Litho emphasizes the need for media to come to a United front to discuss how to highlight GBV. She said this will enable a greater impact.
According to the World Health Organisation, one in three women will experience sexual or physical violence in their lifetime.
The 16 days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence will be climaxed with a celebration of International Human Rights Day on December 10.
In similar news earlier reported by NEWSLEXPOINT.com, women’s rights activist, Dr. Miria Matembe, said men have frustrated gender equality and women empowerment.
According to her, every time equality for women tries to make any sound, men instead coil instead of coming through to help
