That is the kind of respect he wants for his music when he is gone.
In Uganda, artists especially the upcoming ones don’t care about the music of the dead. They go through their work and if they find something that works for them, they jump on it.
Some of that music kickstarts the artist’s career and the money that comes from it isn’t shared with the family of the late artiste.
Recently Lil Pazzo re-did a song of the late Kato Lubwama without asking his family’s permission. They were bitter with him to the point of suing him for millions of shillings.
According to Mesach Semakula, he doesn’t want all that to happen to him and his family. He said he can speak while still alive and he hopes people will understand him.
He said that his family will be in charge of everything once he dies and no person should even try to re-do his songs without notifying his family and getting a go-ahead from them.
“If you want to remake my song, please speak with my family. If they give you a go ahead please do and if they don’t leave,” he said.
