The federation was formed last year by Eddy Kenzo. It immediately overshadowed the association which had been in existence for over five years. Some musicians didn’t mind about it, they immediately joined while others hesitated from the beginning.
The Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) artistes accused the federation of stealing all their ideas and presenting them to the government to get funds.
Indeed the federation involved the government and they received millions to apparently help artists kickstart their careers and other businesses that help them keep up with their careers.
According to Mesach Semakula, he doesn’t have any intentions to join the federation. He said as a person, he doesn’t see any reason to join them at any moment.
“I am personally informing you that I have no issues with the Uganda National Musicians Federation. What matters to me are the objectives towards the music industry. However, I also express no desire to join the Federation. I am okay with where I am right now,” he said.
It should be noted that Semakula is not the only musician who has vowed to never join the federation. Different artists say they don’t think the federation is there for good reasons.
