Though we don’t know yet what transpired in the meeting, we know it was about how to deal with the 2nd Wave. Speculations about lockdown are around town but others still have the faith of one not happening.
“The COVID-19 second wave is here. Cases are rapidly increasing.” MOH tweet read.
In a video that followed, they warned that this time around, young people are more at risk. The second wave seems more serious because contacts are nearly untraceable.
“Data from the previous wave shows that every COVID-19 positive person has between 21-39 contacts. This could be higher for the current wave. Therefore, following the COVID-19 SOPs has never been more important than it is now,” Dr Henry Mwebasa said
People had neglected all the necessary SOPs. Much as there is a vaccine, some people up to now had never taken any jab. Some even fall within the category the MOH considered critical. It is only yesterday that people flooded hospitals to access the vaccine. The president has been warning Ugandans especially those in Kampala and Wakiso to take care but all in vain.
Currently, our neighbor, Kenya announced that they are now going through the fourth wave. They however only announced lockdown in the most affected towns. We still don’t know if that strategy will be borrowed here as well.
