This was apparently as a way of sending a message to others. The deceased were identified as Musisi Mafabi, 22, the son of Wasukira Wadada. And Byeko Onyango, the son of Mapengo of Buwekula village in Jinja city.
Buwekula village, found in Mafubira ward in Jinja’s north division is one of the areas in Jinja drowning by the weight of increased crime.
Kiira Police regional spokesperson James Mubi said that before they were killed, the suspects allegedly went to Hussein Tenywa Waiswa’s home. From here, the two men stole the cow in the morning hours of July 30, 2023.
Mubi revealed how the police is using surveillance cameras to monitor suspicious motorcycles and vehicles used in crimes.
Furthermore, the police patrolling the stretch from the Jinja New Bridge to Magamaga recently made an arrest. They caught a person carrying carcases of nine chicken and four goats stolen from Bwondha landing site in Mayuge district.
The police has also intensified patrols in villages and on highways to curb the crime of theft.
“We have intensified patrols in villages and highways to curb the crime of animal theft. Our respective CCTV control rooms are working 24/7 to monitor movements of suspicious vehicles and motorcycles carrying stolen meat, goats, chickens and cows,” Mubi said.
He then encouraged the community to report any suspicious individuals, vehicles or motorcycles. He also condemned the act of mob justice that the locals exercised.
