The Amendment Bill tabled by Igara West MP Hon Raphael Magyezi seeks to amend Article 102 (b) to remove the age limit provision from the constitution and allow President Museveni to rule forever.
Chris Obore, Parliament’s director of communications, said government released Shs13bn and by Tuesday, MPs had started receiving their Shs29m each on their respective bank accounts.
Led by Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] publicity secretary, Ssemujju Nganda, the opposition members on Wednesday morning returned the money saying it should be used for more developmental purposes.
Nganda told press at the Leader of Opposition’s office that the same money was part of payments for MPs to be refunded by the Ministry of Finance.
“We are returning the money to the Parliament officer in charge of the Consolidated Account,” Nganda said.
Other MPs present were; Busongora North MP William Nzoghu, Butambala MP Muwanga Kivumbi, Hon Lubega Seggona, Soroti MP Angelina Osege and Youth MP Anne Adeke.
The members denounced the money as an immoral bribe to procure President Museveni a life presidency.
They swore not to join the den of thieves they called the ruling National Resistance Movement [NRM] MPs.
