According to the MPs, the fund can help meet constituency demands to deliver services on the government’s behalf.
A couple of years back, each member of parliament would get Shs10 million under the Constituency Development Fund every year. This money would be used to facilitate development activities in constituencies.
However, the parliamentary commission abolished the fund in 2011 for lack of accountability and misuse by some members of parliament.
However, though, Rev. Fr. Charles Onen, the Gulu East constituency MP revealed that they were stressed during the festivities. Voters apparently came to their homes with several demands. Something they couldn’t respond to at the time.
“The situation is, there is no money but there are a lot of demands from the constituency which we cannot actually meet,” Fr. Onen said.
He, therefore, said this is the time for MPs to balance the constituency work and the work of the parliament.
