“The election of @AnitahAmong and @Thomas_Tayebwa is testimony that there is luck in the world. I am only one year older than Tayebwa, but he has achieved what he has.”
Hon. Nambooze added that Parliament is evidently under Museveni so he chooses who takes up any position.
“President Museveni should get directives from the Judiciary and Parliament, but looking at the ceremony to install the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, it showed that Parliament is under the President. It is a department under the President’s office, just like the Judiciary. He belittled the leaders of the two arms of government. For Museveni, who wants to remain in power, this is the best Parliament. For Uganda, this spells doom.”
However, Hon. Mubarak Munyagwa said Anita Among is not one to underestimate. He also said if people are not careful, by the end of her term only a few will be left in opposition.
“Do not underestimate Anita Among. We might only have five solid opponents at the end of her tenure. There are members of the opposition who enter her office with their knees on the ground. They call her Maama.”
Consequently, on the day of the election, Speaker Among made peace with Zaake. The two also had a face-off that led to Zaake being thrown out as Parliament Commissioner.
