Uganda is one of the African countries that misuse social media. Nude videos and photos of different people especially celebrities make rounds now and then.
Some of the people that release those kinds of messages get arrested but most of them get away with it just like that.
According to Hon Munyagwa, if the government doesn’t do anything about it, it will get out of hand. He said the government has a right to ban some of these apps. However, because different people benefit from it, they can ask the app owners to get interpreters.
With people who already understand the language, it is much easier to stop obscene videos and information from being posted on social media platforms.
“The owners of these apps need interpreters, as they can’t recognize when someone shares an obscene message in Luganda. If they don’t get interpreters, the Ugandan government has the right to ban these apps from being used,” he said.
It should be noted that Uganda’s official language is English but with over 50 tribes, languages are also different. They don’t usually address their people in English on different social media platforms.
