He acknowledged that churches have mobilized believers to embrace commercial farming other than working for the stomach. Additionally, he said this is the only way to attain financial freedom both in church and communities.
He made these remarks on Friday in a message delivered by Hon. Mwebesa Francis the Minister of Trade Industry and cooperatives.
It happened during the technical handover of the Kyamate small scale demonstration irrigation scheme in Ntungamo Municipality.
The commissioned project which started in December 2019 is being implemented by the Ministry of water and environment- water production Regional Centre West.
The funding is to improve people’s livelihood
The funding is from the government of Uganda with the aim of improving people’s livelihood through the promotion of modern agriculture practices and protecting wetlands by providing irrigation facilities off wetland areas.
President Museveni thanked the Bishop of South Ankole Diocese Rt Rev Nathan Ahimbisibwe for the established programs. Some of these programs include coffee, banana and fruit growing in the diocese and have improved people’s living standards.
He pledged coffee processing machines for the south Ankole Diocese in order to add value to the coffee.
The Ntungamo District boss Samuel Mucunguzi also hailed Bishop Ahimbisibwe for being visionary and wise. He commended him for starting the project which will be a cornerstone for the people of Ntungamo.
Bishop Ahimbisibwe thanked the Ugandan government and ministry of water and Environment for the irrigation scheme. He says this will benefit Christians and other members of different communities.
