After numerous complaints and public outcries, the attention of the matter caught the president. The president who flew the Crane to Tanzania last week to sign an oil pipeline deal gave an insight into what happened through his Twitter page.
“I had not flown using the @UG_Airlines until yesterday. The crew is very good. When they were landing, I did not know we had landed. Regarding the alleged corruption in the airline, some elements in management and the board MUST face the consequences,” the President tweeted.
A few days after this tweet, the President has revealed how he dealt with the wrong elements at Uganda airlines.
“Recently, we bought brand new aircrafts for Uganda Airlines. But within no time, it had been infiltrated by corrupt officials. When I got wind of this, I dispersed the top management immediately.” Mr Museveni said on his Twitter account.
This has become a quiet phenomenon in Uganda’s public institutions with corruption as the order of the day. However, people have always urged the president to carry out an extensive investigation on these matters other than firing a few individuals. This is because corruption has deep roots in the entire institution and not just at the top only.
