MBALE- Kyaddondo East Member of Parliament, Mr Robert Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine has urged Ugandans especially the youth, to join active politics to “liberate their country”, saying President Yoweri Museveni is too old to meaningfully run state affairs.

“President Museveni is too old to lead the country. The time is ripe for change and it’s the youth who are the majority. It’s upon us to determine our future,” Mr Kyagulanyi said on Saturday night while addressing hundreds of youth at Hi5 Club Gardens in Mbale Town.
President Museveni who has been in power since 1986 will this year clock 73 years. He recently celebrated 70 years of baptism.
Some politicians are scheming to amend Article 102 (b) of the Constitution to scrap the age limit of 75 years for presidential candidates to allow President Museveni contest again in 2021, while others are vowing to block the idea.
Mr Kyagulanyi was welcomed to Mbale town by hundreds of residents, who chanted: “Our saviour, our president; our voice” among other slogans as a band of honking motorcycle riders paralysed Mbale town, the political heartbeat of the Elgon region.
Youth in Uganda are the youngest population in the world, with 77 per cent of its population being under 30 years of age. There are about 7,310,386 youth from the ages of 15–24 years living in Uganda.
Mr Kyagulanyi said he decided to join politics to “address challenges facing the youth in the nation.”
“I went to Parliament so that I could ably speak out our challenges. We had no voice that truly understands our challenges in Parliament,” he said.
He appealed to the youth to be focused and work hard to fight unemployment and poverty.
The musician turned politician asked young people to avoid drug abuse; gambling and alcoholism which he said affect productivity.
He cautioned them against engaging in early and unproductive sex to guard against HIV/Aids.
Mr Muhammed Lucas, a youth, said Mr Kyagulanyi has inspired him to take to join politics.
“I am going to contest in 2021 as parish councillor because of the inspiration I have got from him,” he said
