He says all the previous speakers served two terms only and it just couldn’t be different this time round. This is because Kadaga has already served her two terms.
“This time round, NRM had to keep its image. In case of a norm or culture in the party, it has to be followed. The norm has been two terms for each member as Speaker of Parliament,” Museveni said.
Museveni says the party chooses speaker flag bearer out of will. According to him it is not a matter of life and death so it can always change hands. He goes ahead to say it is wrong for speakers to even hold campaigns as the two have been doing. The camps of Kadaga and Oulanyah have openly been campaigning for their candidates regardless of it being wrong.
Meanwhile, Oulanyah one of the key issues that CEC considered while choosing a flag bearer was loyalty to the party.
“I wasn’t there when they were setting up the criteria. I presented my papers, they later called me to make my presentation and left. I heard the president talk about some of the yardsticks like loyalty and the outcome of the 2021 elections among other issues.”
There are so many questions to ask though. Will Kadaga remain in NRM after this? Will she face any disciplinary actions from CEC? What next if Kadaga doesn’t win or better still what if she wins?
