Apparently, for the past three years, Rwanda closed the Uganda-Rwanda border at Katuna and has only opened it today.
This came at the back of negotiations between the two countries. It was only after the first son and commander of Land Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba meeting Kagame that they reached this resolution.
However, according to Besigye, he thinks the problem between the two countries are deep and not yet over.
“I think President Museveni has found himself in a tight spot with no option but to surrender to Rwanda. The President of Rwanda summed it up by saying he is not impressed by statements and photo moments. The objectives set out have to be met.
There are deep problems that are not transparent, so Ugandans can’t make an informed conclusion on the Uganda – Rwanda relations. My informed guesswork tells me that the issues between Uganda and Rwanda are not over,” Kiiza Besigye said.
The former FDC president also said that this development of reopening the border is highly welcome. This is because it impacts lives on either sides positively.
Besigye however said that unless the the conditions that led to the earlier closure are addressed, it will close again.
Meanwhile construction works are ongoing along the border. The aim is to reduce traffic flow along the border.
