The program she assured them of is dubbed Parish Development Models (PDM).
Nabakooba visited Mityana’s sub-counties on March 2nd to deliver the PDM advice. She told residents that the PDM program will help them improve their livelihoods and this is one of government’s main goals.
“I urge you residents of Mityana to actively participate in the Parish Development Model programme. The money government has put in the programme is meant to help fight poverty among yourselves. This money is yours. Please participate by making sure you register with the constituted parish saccos,” she told the residents.
The sub-counties Nabakooba visited include the following; Banda sub-county, Kakindu sub-county and Ssekanyonyi sub-county.
Furthermore, she encouraged transparency among the residents and urged them to use PDM money productively. She also said sub-counties will receive more money if the one they received before had been out to good use.
Apparently, 75 SACCOS were created in different parishes in Mityana in an effort to implement the program. Mr Emmanuel Zirabamuzale, the district PDM focal person, made this revelation to Nabakooba.
He also said those participating in the program will have to engage in economic activities like coffee farming or cattle and chicken rearing.
Furthermore,Nabakooba urged the residents to disregard some things being said by some politicians about the program contrary to the government stand.
The PDM is a Government poverty alleviation programme. It aims at changing the lives of the 39% of Ugandans living below the poverty line.
