Apparently, rumor had it that she always moved around with a lot of money, according to the witness.
The fifteenth prosecution witness Detective Assistant Superintendent of Police Winfred Nakatudde made the revelation.
She apparently recorded a confession statement from one of the key suspects in the murder of Nagirinya and her driver Ronald Kitayimbwa.
Ms Nakatudde said Copriyam Kasolo, alias Arsenal, 32, revealed in the recording that he got the plan from prison. At the time, Copriyam had been remanded on a different case.
As she read the statement, she said two inmates approached Kasolo and later turned out to be his friends. The two inmates went by the names of Yona and Kabango, and told him about a ‘small job to be executed’.
“They told me that there is a woman who drives a Toyota Spacio, white in colour and provided more details about the car and her area of residence (Lungujja at Hajjati Mayanja’s rentals) and that she moves with a lot of money between Shs30m and Shs40m,” Ms Nakatudde stated while reading Kasolo’s statement.
Kasolo’s release from Luzira Prison came on 1st July, 2021. He tipped off one of his co-accused, Sadat Kateregga. Soon they started trailing their victim. Later on, they called upon other accomplices to execute their plan on August 21st, 2021.
Ms Nakatudde told court that the suspects never intended to kill anyone. However, they did so for fear of being reported to the police after being recognized. Kasolo however disowned this confession statement saying they tortured him to admit to the double murder.
