Nation Media Group is set to lose some of its employees due to the Covid effect. This was stated in a letter that was published on 25th March 2021. Nation Media comprises of Daily Monitor, Enyanda, NTV, Spark TV among others. One of their reasons besides the pandemic is that they want to take the digital route further.
“During this difficult period, management has implemented several cost-saving interventions to enable business continuity.” the letter read.
“Furthermore, this new reality necessitates the re-engineering of NMGU in order to accelerate our digital transformation. On this journey, we intend to radically change our business model for all media platforms from traditional advertising to content-driven revenue. With the objective of establishing leadership in the mobile/digital landscape in Uganda. While also exploring new revenue streams in the experiential and technology space.”
Consequently, all these put together have resulted into the company reducing on the number of employees it has. Apparently, it will take effect on 31st March 2021 which is next week on Wednesday.
… Regrettably, it will also result in a reduction of our workforce effective Wednesday, March 31st 2021.” The letter noted.
Well, Covid has not left businesses the same and definitely, media has not been spared. There was another rumour that Record TV will be closing down by the end of March as well. This means the number of unemployed people is actually increasing and something has to be done.
