The general manager, Moses Kamabale, said shs 35.1bn will be injected in the purchase of malaria drugs. He said shs 13.2bn will be for TB medicine and shs 4.9bn will be covering immunization services.
He also revealed they will need shs 37.7bn to purchase mama kits and family planning and shs 31bn for ARVs. This comes after donors warned that they are scaling down on their funding starting from the next financial year.
“We know that the donors have also given their warning to finance the government of Uganda that they will be scaling down on the counter funding that they have been providing in this area. We think that if they move out, government of Uganda will take in that part that they have been providing,” Moses said
In one of his press conferences last year, President Museveni assured Ugandans that the government will be able to fill this gap. He said that this will only happen if the donors decide to pull their funding out.
At the moment, it remains unclear if the NMS request will be included in the next financial budget.
