New Hope: Uganda’s Covid 19 Vaccine Trials To Start in November

New hope rises in Uganda after the Ministry of health officials confirmed that the COVID 19 vaccine human trials are to start in November 2020. This vaccine known as Self Replicating RNA, will have to go through three different stages before its released for public use.

This vaccine has been made through a research by a partnership between Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) and Imperial College in Uk.

Dr. Diana Atwine confirmed that people involved in the research are in the final stages of enabling the vaccine to reach Uganda for all the recommended trials. She gave it till November for the vaccine to be in the country.

Dr. Musenero, who is the head of the presidential scientific Initiative on Epidemics( PRESIDE) said the first trial will be connected on 10 Ugandans. This will enable them to see how humans react to this vaccine.

After this stage, the second step will be to test on 100 to 200 people then later on 1000 to 3000 people. All these people will be volunteers and this whole procedure will go up to June.

Surely this is some good news and it gives hope indeed. The pandemic has destroyed and distorted lives in every way. Most countries resorted to researching and making their own vaccines because its only way forward apparently.

This process however takes long because of all the steps it has to go through. It has to get approval from the World Health Organization before anything can happen.
