New Laws Against Sexual Related Cases Invoke Mixed Feelings

The parliament passed the bill against sexual cases. The law has invoked mixed feelings along so many Ugandans. There is a long list of sexual acts with punishments attached to it. Men especially found this really absurd to some extent.

Some people are even suggesting that probably sex should just be illegal too.

The sexual offences include; Rape and incest with life imprisonment. Attempted rape will attract 8 years of jail term. Aggravated rape comes with death penalty. Indecent assault attracts 14 year. Gesture /sound, 1 year imprisonment. Indecent communication comes with 7 years of imprisonment or shs6M or both. Sexual harassment, sexual exploitation, exploitation of detainees, 10 years or 40 million. To mention but a few.

We can’t deny that sexual offences have increased and may be this will work. Police report showed that most sexual offenses were committed by parents.

There are so many girls who came out to say their fathers raped them. If only these laws are greatly considered so much will change in our society.

Obviously, some people are saying there are more pressing issues and in any case to them the laws are unrealistic.

“Wednesday was my worst news date this week. Couldn’t believe all those old heads were so active on these laws and for such a long time. once its injustice being mentioned you will think we got only Zaake in parliament” one tweeted.

Hopefully, some people don’t make this a money making act and yet that’s not it’s intention.
