This was after some of the party supporters protested outside a Seattle hospital where Hon Jacob Oulanyah is currently undergoing treatment.
Mao said that this was hypocritical of the party and its leaders to attack a dying man. He added that a ceasefire was needed and besides Oulanyah was not the right man to attack.
It was rather his boss, Museveni they should have attacked because he sanctioned the trip.
Mao further said that all MPs are entitled to treatment at the expense of the public. He went ahead to cite the examples of Hon Kyagulanyi, Betty Nambooze and Francis Zaake. All these NUP MPs at one time received treatment abroad.
While appearing on NBS’s Frontline, Minister Chris Baryomunsi referred to NUP as a group of confused fellows. This did not please NUP’s deputy spokesperson, Alex Mufumbiro who referred to this as blackmail.
“I have heard blackmail on this show. Minister Chris Baryomunsi has referred to us as confused, but he is the highest level of confused monger,” Mufumbiro said.
It was a moment to seize for Mao as he clapped back at NUP and its panelist. The former Gulu City MP said that he was glad NUP now knows how it pains to be blackmailed.
“I am glad Waiswa Mufumbiro now knows what it feels like to be blackmailed,” Mao shor back.
For so long, Mao has been branded an NRM mole in the Opposition. This is a notion that apparently NUP fuelled.
Mao however said that he’s glad the only things he gets accused of are the handshakes and photo-moments with the NRM. He’s not like NUP that actually preaches drinking water and behind curtains drinks wine.
