NUP after vetting about 5 candidates who had shown interest in being the flagbearers of the party chose Akecha Samson Toolit. This seat fell vacant after the unfortunate and untimely demise of Hon Jacob Oulanyah.
Toolit was however a former FDC member. The director for Information and Publicity at the NRM secretariat, Emmanuel Dumbo has come out to wonder why the party couldn’t front their own candidate.
Dombo said that if NUP claims their election was stolen in 2021, they should have fronted the same candidate. And not steal one from FDC.
“If NUP says they stole their election in 2021, why haven’t they fronted the same candidate? They had to go to FDC and borrow Toolit Simon,” Dombo said while appearing on the NBS Morning Breeze.
However, NUP’s Deputy spokesperson Waiswa Mufumbiro refuted these allegations. He revealed that Toolit was an independent candidate in the last general election.
“Toolit was an independent candidate in the last election, he was not an FDC candidate. Don’t be misled by the propaganda of NRM,” Mufumbiro said.
Meanwhile, Kilak South MP Gilbert Olanya who was on the same show said that NRM are the kings of borrowing individuals from different parties. They should therefore not use that to attack other political parties.
“NRM is the expert in “borrowing” people. They borrowed the late Jacob Oulanyah from UPC. Currently, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker were borrowed from FDC. Changing a political party is a personal decision.”
Olanya also said that if the Opposition agree to front one candidate, it will then be hard for NRM to win the election.
NRM fronted Andrew Ojok Oulanyah the son of the late Speaker of Parliament Hon Jacob Oulanyah who was the area MP.
