According to the source who chose to remain incognito, Kadaga and Oulanyah were both not willing to give way. Apparently, Oulanyah had been promised that after 10 years of Kadaga serving, he will be next. This however doesn’t seem so because Kadaga is still in the race and not willing to let go. The source also says Kadaga told CEC not to make decisions based on a non-existent agreement.
“Kadaga stuck to her guns and argued that no decision should be made based on a non-existent agreement.”
President Museveni who doubles as chairperson of NRM called off the meeting. The fact that Kadaga and Oulanyah just failed to agree couldn’t let the meeting go on.
Therefore, CEC decided that all those interested should apply and go through the vetting procedure. After vetting, the NRM party caucus will take a decision ahead of speakership elections set for May 24th 2021.
Meanwhile it is not just the NRM in this race, other parties like the FDC also sent in Semujju Nganda. This race may be different from all the previous races in the previous years.
