The NRM secretary-general, Mr. Richard Todwong, yesterday said the party won the election fair and square.
‘’Whenever there is competition, there must be a winner. We have defeated NUP (National Unity Platform) massively,’’ Mr Todwong said.
He added that they should accept and concede the defeat and plan better next time and told them to stop crying foul about the matter. Furthermore, he said elections are not conducted to make only NUP or FDC to win.
The electoral commission declared NRM’s Andrew Muwonge the winner of the election with 31,830 votes. NUP’s Harriet Nakwedde came in second with 31,308 votes.
However, NUP had disputed the election, saying many irregularities were noticed during the elections, such as vote-rigging, among others.
‘’We know that NRM has always tried to hoodwink and claim to be strong even when they are not. In January, after they stole the people’s mandate, they tried to tell us that we had lost, but we know they don’t have all the declaration result forms,’’ NUP deputy spokesperson, Mr Alex Mufumbiro said.
Meanwhile, In similar news spokesperson of NUP, Joel Ssenyonyi said what happened in Kayunga is no longer an NUP matter but a country matter now. He said this while addressing the media on the way forward after NUP lost an election in Kayunga.
“Even some NRM members are saying they didn’t win in Kayunga. This is no longer a NUP matter. It is an issue of our country. What are you telling Ugandans? That voting doesn’t matter anymore?” Joel Ssenyonyi
