“Personally, I don’t appreciate the ideological base of NUP and what they stand for. It comes off as a party associated with extremism. When it was formed, it took up the behaviour of the extremist FDC.”
He went ahead and said NUP doesn’t in anyway show unity. He noted that most of the leaders of the party are from Buganda which means it’s a Buganda party.
“NUP isn’t a party that exhibits national unity. It is a Buganda centric party. Challenge me on how many NUP leaders are from the other parts of the country.”
However, some of the NUP supporters lashed at him why it would be bad if NUP is Buganda centric.
“And is it wrong to be Buganda Centric. Buganda is the most balanced region in Uganda where voters are from all regions of the country. A vote from Rukungiri will be from westerners only but a vote in Buganda is from all tribes of the country ‘.. simple logic,” a one Walakira Moses said.
A number of people have criticized NUP for the same saying their influence is only felt in Buganda.
However in the recently finished by elections in Omoro, NUP managed to come second ahead of all the opposition parties that participated.
It should also be noted that NUP is only two years old, so its influence can not match the NRM kind of influence.
