The exercise was led by the deputy president of the Western region, Hon Jolly Mugisha, former Kasese NUP woman flag bearer Katembo Fatuma as well as other NUP leaders in the district.
“The items delivered included food, soap, clothes, basins and other household items. We are grateful to all those of you who contributed towards these relief items.
NUP stands with the people of Kasese and prays for them as they go through this tough period.” Hon Kyagulanyi Ssentamu posted on his Facebook page.
Around 11 weeks ago, the banks of river Nyamwamba exploded leading to massive flooding in Kasese.
This displaced thousands of people leaving them homeless, with no food, and other basic needs.
The government however through the Prime Minister’s office came to their rescue with beans, posho, mosquito nets and blankets. The beans were however sub-standard which annoyed the PM Hon Rt Robinah Nabbanja.
She ordered the delivery of better beans, better quality blankets, and mosquito nets. This was besides the government promising that it’s going to resettle the Kasese flood victims.
A few years ago, the government came out and announced it had acquired money from the Egyptian government to reconstruct River Nyamwamba. However, up to now, works are yet to commence.
