Uganda officers have been warned of exploiting Somali women sexually while on foreign mission in Somalia

Police officers from Uganda have been warned against indulging in sexual relations with locals while on foreign mission in Somalia.

On Thursday, a group of police officers departing for Somalia under AMISOM was flagged off at Field Force Unit headquarters in Naguru.

Speaking to the officers, The Director Peace Support Operations, AIGP Grace Turyagumanawe warned them against indulging in any form of indiscipline while on the mission.

“It’s an offence to exploit someone sexually according to the United Nations standards and orders,”Turyagumanawe warned.

“Know your responsibility. Exhibit professionalism and integrity by putting what we have taught you in practice.”

 Turyagumanawe also asked the team to always heed to commanders’ orders while on duty. He reminded the officers that one of their key roles while on the mission is to mentor the Somali police in public order management and counter terrorism among others.

“You have always done a good job here in the country and we are proud of you. Do the same in Somalia.”

The warning comes against the backdrop of allegations of sexual harassment against the UPDF in Somalia and the Central African Republic. The army leadership however denied the reports as denied the reports as baseless rumors.
