Opposition In Uganda Is Only Sentimental, Electoral Commission PR Head Jotham Taremwa

The head of Public Relations at the Electoral Commission, Jotham Taremwa, has said opposition in Uganda is only good at being sentimental.

He says instead of pointing out facts, they are always being emotional and playing victim.

“My own take on the opposition in Uganda is that they are often more sentimental. They will complain about an unfair electoral process but not point out the exact unfairness. The opposition needs to help the public pin the government.”

He says he doesn’t even understand why Besigye is rioting without solution to the government. According to him Besigye is only doing his politics.

“I have been watching Besigye’s protests, and I wonder what he wants us to do. Push the government with solutions other than playing these games of running to Kikuubo. I don’t buy into his protests. It’s his politics.”

Jotham Taremwa says the Omoro county by-election loss for the opposition may be pushed on anything but the truth is, the functioning opposition party is still young in the game. There was no way NUP was going to win against National Resistance Movement.

“Most of the opposition parties participating in politics now came from FDC. These are people who have disagreed with the leadership of the party to come out and form their own parties. They haven’t yet gotten good membership across the country.”

However, opposition supporters say government only listens to the language of strikes.

“That’s because you guys don’t listen to any form of complaints except for strikes. So, personally, I think @kizzabesigye1 is talking to you in the language you are most conversant with,” a one Matthew said.
