Unlike other Ugandans who get green cards and stay in the US, Sempa got an opportunity to have one but he returned to Uganda.
According to him, his goal wasn’t to get a US green card. He just wanted an opportunity to marry the woman of his dreams.
After the wedding, he knew the next step was to bring his wife to Uganda and continue serving the Lord like he had been doing before. He revealed that only his two children out of four were born in the United States. The other two were born in Uganda.
“After marrying my wife, I obtained a green card in America. However, having a green card usually means staying in America longer, which wasn’t my situation. Despite spending more time in Uganda, each time officials questioned me, I explained that I was a serving missionary. Eventually, I earned my citizenship,” he said.
It should be noted that some Ugandan celebrities now just marry whites to get a green card. As soon as they get the card, they divorce their partners.
It should be noted that Pastor Ssempa is a vocal advocate of family values and African traditions. He has spoken out against what he terms as “spiritual neo-colonialism” on several occasions.
