The government earlier this week released a list of vulnerable people. These are set to benefit from the government’s COVID-19 relief package of Ugx 100,000.
Some of the groups identified included slum dwellers, single mothers, public transport operators, gym, massage, bar and restaurant workers among others.
Ssempa feels that the Prime Minister and her team made a grave mistake of not including God’s servants on this list.
“I want to tell the Prime Minister that she needs to include the servants of God on this list. Leave alone the Ugx 100,000 being little, we are also starving and need to be bailed out. There are of course the wealthy pastors who I won’t mention names but the likes of me need money. I want to advise the Prime Minister to revise this list and include us if she doesn’t want curses.” Pastor Ssempa said.
He added that, unlike other pastors who make money from their congregation, there are some pastors who do their work among poor people. They, therefore, can’t collect any money from them.
The vocal pastor cited himself as an example saying that he pastors university students who are broke. It is unlikely though that this list will be revised by the Prime Minister’s team to add new categories.
This is because the exercise is behind schedule and people are already feeling the dire effects of the 42-day lockdown.
