Patrick Salvado is one of the few comedians in Uganda to go international. Most of the other comedians can’t perform in other countries because of their choice of dialect. He said as comedians, they have always talked about vulgar jokes. But still, most of the comedians make the same jokes and even go ahead to insult the audience. Apparently, if Ugandan comedians don’t realize their mistakes, the industry will continue to go down.
The talented comedian also talked about the hatred and jealousy that surrounds the industry. He said unlike other industries, comedians don’t support each other. He said Alex Muhangi has personally been trying to revive the comedy industry but when he got issues with URA, no one stood up for him. With these issues unresolved, the comedy industry will stay stagnant. He added that comedians need to come together to make certain things work in their favour.
“I can describe the Ugandan comedy industry as very stagnant. We have so many issues but no one even talks about them so that we can get help. With these issues, the chance of the comedy industry developing is very low,” he said.
