Paul Mwiru of the FDC party was announced as the winner of the jinja East by-election .He was declared as the new MP for Jinja East on Thursday night.

The FDC candidate Paul Mwiru faced competition from NRM candidate Nabeta Igeme thus making the by-election a two horse race.
During the voting, at around 11:00am, 8000 preticked ballots were found all having Igeme Nathan Nabeta ticked. This caused tension in Jinja .
Despite president Museveni requesting Jinja East people to vote the NRM candidate Nabeta whether he’s sleepy, he’s request was declined.
Mwiru won the by election with 6654 votes while his NRM competitor Nabeta Scored 5043 Votes.
The New Jinja East MP said: “I thank God that the will Jinja East people has prevailed. I declare this win to my supporters who were incarcerated on this voting day (15th/03/2018).”
