PLE Exams: Kyere Primary school in Serere district saw one of their p.7 candidates, a 17-year-old girl giving birth on Tuesday during the mathematics exam.
Because she is a minor, her identity has been withheld. Apparently, in the middle of doing her paper, she started experiencing labor pains.
According to Herbert Ejalu, the school head teacher, the girl put up her hand and asked to be excused. They then rushed her to a health facility where she managed to deliver a baby girl.
Ejalu further revealed that despite the weak state of the girl, she returned to school and completed her paper. She also sat for the social studies exam later that afternoon.
Similarly, in 2021, a 16-year-old girl sat her Primary Leaving Examinations-PLE at Serere health centre IV after giving birth. She is among the girls that registered for PLE after conceiving during the COVID-19 lockdown.
In Kasese district, a 16-year-old girl from Kasangali SDA primary school, Bwesumbu sub-county gave birth a day before the start of the 2022 PLE Exams.
Another candidate at Kacungiro primary school in Munkunyu sub-county experienced labor pains before PLE. However, according to reports, the minor had not given birth yet by the time PLE ended on Wednesday.
PLE ended on Wednesday with Science and English papers. According to the Uganda National Examinations Board- UNEB, a total of 832,839 pupils registered to sit for PLE.
