Police Annual Crime Report Shows Increase In Domestic Violence In Uganda

Police annual crime report has shown an increase in domestic violence in Uganda. What does this mean? A sharp increase from 2019 was realised which is 13,639 cases to 17,664 in 2020. Domestic violence came in third place of the most committed crimes. The increase in this crime was attached to the lockdown during the peak of covid.

Domestic violence is a reflection that families are founded on the wrong grounds. Many people walk into marriages with people they hardly know. Even those you think you know can just turn out to be advocates of this violence. Speaking of domestic violence, it’s not just women. There are men who suffer the same but because of the way society views them, they can’t come out.

This says a lot about families in the country. Do we have a family court? Do people know that they can go to police when they experience torture?

There is a lot to ask ourselves. Sadly these are just the cases that police knows about. How about those that suffer in silence?

A home full of violence will produce children of the same trend. If all they see is violence, what would you expect from them as well?

Once still, these homes have many cases of child abuse. There are so many causes of domestic violence. Which among them include stress, drunkenness, poverty, cheating among others. The good thing is that all these causes have solutions that are workable.

Family courts should do their jobs so that we see less of this. Otherwise more crimes and deaths will be reported regarding the same.
