Police Arrests Police Officers Filmed Dragging Elderly Woman In Mud

Uganda police force has released a statement indicating that they have arrested four police officers filmed dragging an old woman in mud in Mbarara. One of the police officers was wearing a uniform but the other three were in civilian clothes.

The daughter of the victim managed to film their faces and the video went viral immediately.

According to police, they condemn the methods used to arrest the old lady as it contradicts professional standards.

“Uganda Police Force condemns the method of arrest depicted in this video. It contradicts our professional standards.
The officers involved in the incident are:
1. ASP Andrew Betunga (in uniform)
2. Detective Constable Various Aharizira
3. Detective Constable Hope Nsasirwe and,
4. Detective Constable Loyce Kiboneka
These officers were executing an arrest of the female seen dragged in the mud. She is a resident of Lubiri cell in Mbarara City.
All the four have since been arrested and are currently detained in Mbarara. Further updates regarding the progress of our disciplinary action will be provided later,”

It should also be noted that this is not the first time someone has been arrested in this manner. The other incidents are not filmed and posted on social media, however, Uganda police has in recent times become notorious with the way they arrest citizens.

It is not clear what the old lady had done to be dragged in the mud the way she was. However, unverified reports claim she was arrested for tresspassing.

The incident stems from a land wrangle where an influential individual has grabbed the old woman’s land and the case has been in court for more than 10 years.
