Apparently, the junior officers had raided the senior officer’s bar that is located in Kyengera operating past curfew hours.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the assault charge against Mulera.
He further said the culprit would be charged in the normal court of law and later face the police disciplinary court.
Owoyesigyire condemned the officer for subjecting his colleagues to violence yet they were enforcing directives from the president. The FFU police reportedly found him together with a group of boys playing cards.
‘’He beat us and even attempted to grab our guns. Some of our colleagues including a female colleague sustained severe injuries from his assault, and he also promised to gun us down,’’ an officer on the assaulted team said.
The scuffle forced the offers to fire teargas in the wee hours of the night inconveniencing some of the residents in the area.
President Yoweri Museveni while announcing measures to curb Covid-19 last year in March, closed all bars among other places of entertainment. The president has since lifted several other restrictions.
However, some bars linked to security personnel and top Gov’t officials continued operations in blatant disregard to presidential directives.
Others reportedly pay money and enjoy protection from the officers supposed to implement the directive.
