Police Investigating Another School Fire Incident

Kampala Police is investigating another school fire that broke out yesterday at Skies High School Kyibutika. The school is located in Makindye Ssabagabo in Wakiso district.

The deputy spokesperson for the police, Luke Owoyesigyire said the fire started off in the school kitchen before it spread to the dormitories. He said that on top of destroying property, the fire also hurt two students before putting it out.

The two were identified as 17-year-old Teddy Nassubi and 16-year-old Sheila Namuyinda who apparently suffered from suffocation. They were later rushed to Namalere Health Center 4 after being rescued, to receive medical attention.

Owoyesigyire revealed that fast responders managed to call the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services team in time.

They got to the scene early enough to contain the fire before it could do more damage to the rest of the school. They are also currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

This development comes just one day after Fire claimed the life of a senior one student at Kyamate Secondary School in Ntungamo. The deceased was identified as one Bonus Akwateire from Isingiro district.

The business community in Kampala district has suffered the effects of fire in the recent past as well. A police report released yesterday revealed that fires increased by 16% in 2022 compared to 2021.
