Police Officer’s Wife Hangs Self In Kisoro

Police in Kisoro district have launched an investigation into circumstances surrounding the death by suicide of a 25-year-old woman. The Kigezi Sub-region Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate identified the deceased as Sarah Narukwanga.

Sarah happened to be the wife of Samuel Imalingat, a police officer of Field Force Unit department attached to Nyarusiza Police post.

It is alleged that on Monday morning, Sarah (the late) stayed home with their one-year-old baby to prepare breakfast.

During this time, Samuel had gone to a nearby unipot to read books. When he returned home, about 30 minutes later, he discovered his wife hanging in a wrapper and unresponsive.

According to Maate, the police officer immediately made his way to inform his fellow officers from Kisoro Police Station. They then went ahead and arrived at the scene to ensure its preservation before investigations started.

Later, the district Scene of Crime Officer with other detectives examined the scene thoroughly. They gathered forensic evidence and later retrieved the body to Kisoro mortuary for postmortem.

Maate said that inquiries to establish the possible cause of death are underway. A case of suicide by hanging was registered at Kisoro CPS under the reference number DEF 11/2023.
