20-year-old Janet had a six-month-old pregnancy according to Mr. Rogers and she was a resident of Lwajusi village, Lwajusi Sub County in Manafwa district.
‘’We have lost a mother and her son during the heavy downpour. It seems the wall was weak and could not withstand the rain and hailstorm,’’ Mr. Taitika said.
The tragedy is said to have happened at about 7 PM when the deceased pregnant mother reportedly prepared a night meal for herself and her son. According to nearby residents, they said they heard a loud rumbling such as an earthquake when the house collapsed.
Later on, when the police arrived at the scene, the victims were already dead. Mr. Taitika said they were able to recover the bodies from the debris with help from the locals.
As investigations into the incident continued, the bodies of the deceased were taken to Mbale City mortuary for postmortem.
It should be noted that this is not the first of such incidents, dating the most recent one to earlier on this month, on April 1.
Two worshipers died and eight others were seriously injured after a church in which they had gathered for evening prayers collapsed on them.
