President Museveni To Address Nation On Friday On Covid-19, Opening Of Economy

On Friday, December 31, 2021, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will address the nation. The main points of the address will be the status of Covid-19 in the country and he will also deliver his New Year message then.

Senior Presidential Press Secretary Lydia Nabusayi confirmed the address and noted that the president will address the nation at 8:00 pm. She also revealed that Mr. Museveni will address the nation from his home in Rwakitura, in the Kiruhura district.

‘’The address will be live on all Radios and Televisions,’’ Nabusayi said.

The announcement comes a day after the president met with the Covid-19 task force team led by PM Robinah Nabbanja.

This meeting happened on Monday in Rwakitura after a surge of new Covid-19 infections across the country.

During the meeting, both the task force and the president agreed upon reopening the economy fully in January 2022. This is set to happen in sequences despite the surge in Covid-19 infections.

The public will on Friday be eager to know which sectors the President will reopen on January 1, 2022.

After the total lockdown in March 2020, the president later lifted some restrictions such as schools. However, in June 2021, the president shut down schools again and suspended public gatherings after a second Covid-19 wave.

Schools have since remained closed. However, one of the most affected sectors due to Covid-19 is the entertainment sector which includes drinking joints. These have been closed since March 2020.
